*****HELLO SIZZLERS FROM CENTRAL PATAGONIA CHILE!! STILL HAVE ROOM FOR ANY GROUPS FROM MARCH 12TH TO APRIL 15TH!!*****
When I was in elementary school in Portola, California I used to daydream about being a tour leader some day. I remember it vividly as a youngster seeing once or twice a group being toured through my town or watching Jay Fair guiding folks on Lake Davis. I thought to myself, this would be a great thing to do when I got older, it was just in my blue-jeans! I have always loved the great outdoors as a child and I thank my father for instilling in me a passion for the things that are natural in life. I have always liked meeting new people and socializing amongst them and these things now are playing huge dividends as I watch my business grow leaps and bounds. Of course I thank all of you out there because if it weren’t for you Sizzlers, I wouldn’t be here and I am so grateful. But I’m on a great ride right now and as my experience grows as an outfitter, my valued customers benefit more and more as I get better at the things I was destined to become. From the heart of Patagonia, I thank you all and that’s from my soul! Jack Trout
The views in Central Patagonia are something you all should see in person someday. The pictures are great, but to witness it firsthand is an experience you’ll never forget.
The mountains and glaciers of the Patagonia are magnificent in size and expression and call to you in your sleep as you hear another glacial tumble down the Southern Andes like a 4 am train rumbles out of Dunsmuir, California and so commences another day.
Nico, Francisco and I were so happy to have Maureen and David back for a second year here in Chile! David is such a character and laughed as he said we needed to take a picture in the beginning with all of us smiling just in case something went wrong, we at least had this smiling photo which is typical on the 1st day! Dry wit and English humor is always a constant with David. Maureen smiled with her elegant classy charm, almost royalty-like, as she genuinely embraces all she meets.
They both hopped in the Trout Van and we heard stories from their weird trip down in Southern Argentina. (They wanted to buy everyone down there a watch as a gift)…..
We headed to my favorite place for Pizza and the whole gang was present including our newest arrival to Team Trout, Gaston our new shuttle driver!
It was so great, the season was already underway with Francisco (Pancho) guiding groups earlier and the success was brewing like a fine cup of Peets Coffee! (my favorite).
Look at that pizza Sizzlers! You all know I love great food, awesome views and watching a customer hook-up! But for now the food was so appreciated and we knew in the coming days the things that David and Maureen came back for were just around the corner.
The owner Ceasar Salad, was back in the kitchen looking like he was smoking something to enhance his pizza-making skills, but all of us knew better. It was just a bombilla stuffed with herbal mate and that can motivate anybody’s pizza production down here.
We saw two sisters enjoying pizza and two youngsters teaming for more!
After a beautiful drive we made it to our resort where we put our customers.
It’s a really cozy place with the charm of a modern chalet and the decor of the Patagonia set in a typical Chilean rustic fashion.
We really have it together now with two cooks and the food is absolutely outstanding. I love the sopaillas and pebre (deep fried breads and salsa).
We like to have the guides and outfitters eat with the customers and the customers insist on it!
Life is grand!
Dessert is always great here in Chile, but Clara’s dessert is worth documenting and belongs in a French museum!
We ate dinner and drank a little too much as always and then headed off to tie flies for the next day and I rubbed my lucky trout ring to spread a little Jack Trout magic for guaranteed success!
I got up early the next morning at 6am and walked down to take photos in the soft light. I really couldn’t sleep, I was so excited for this has been a wonderful year for numbers and size and when you have customers like David and Maureen, it’s like a great book you never want to finish, you try to remember every waking moment.
The lake was buzzing with dragonflies that the trout constantly jump out of the water for right in front of your eyes and gorge themselves on like a college boy eats Top Ramen Noodles in the United States.
I stood there speechless and heard another glacier fall and looked around just to make sure it wasn’t a truck nearing close to me on the road.
Nicolas guided David last year and these two nuts hit it off! I think Nicolas has become one of Chile’s finest guides and is always finding the huge lunkers that folks travel thousands of miles for.
The lake was going off that day with trout rising to Chrenoble Ants and what could be better than catching respectable trout on flies that just about anyone could see!
Could you see these flies on the end of your line? If not just look for big lips!
We catch McCloud River Rainbows, browns (Loch Levan & German), sea-run browns, sea trout, steelhead and brookies up to and over 10lbs. This is one place as a guide you expect to catch a trout over 6lbs everyday!
This is what I mean about Nico and this is why we call him now, “The Condor”! Can I get a little help from the audience? How many pounds is this lovely German Brown Trout? I think
in the 9 to 10lb range, what do you think? email me at info@jacktrout.com.
Maureen and I could see trout moving about and feeding everywhere! This is Maureen’s second year of fly fishing and learning and I am so happy with her progress as she hooked double digits that day all on dries!
That was one strong trout originally from the McCloud River in Northen California.
Lunch was epic as usual and the views were breathtaking.
In the river you could see trout feeding just under the surface, how about a small mayfly cripple? I always remember Jan Brown from Cassel, Califonia tied the sweetest cripples known to mankind, and her husband Dave always threw the best line on Hat Creek. He could spell his name, Sizzlers, as he waved his magic wand!!
David and Nico were hooking trout regularly and you could hear them laughing as David cut another joke!
Way to go Nico!
Back on the lake on another day Maureen caught her biggest brown ever and she had become an intermediate fly fisher!
That night back at the ranch, David showed off his Kane Frog he brought back from Austrailia, Clara got quite the kick out of it. David is one of the funniest customers ever folks!
These two ladies can really make a week fantastic, thanks for all the great meals and desserts!
All of our dinners and lunches are served with a fine bottle of Chilean wine.
We have a great private place for you to stay when you come to visit us in Central Patagonia.
When David was asked, “how did you sleep”? He said and I quote, “slept like baby, cried all night and wet the bed”! What a laugh folks, this guy needs his own reality TV show!
David and Maureen Cargill and Team Trout in Patagonia Chile 2007!*****STAY TUNED SIZZLERS AS DAVID AND MAUREEN HEAD WITH TEAM TROUT TO FUTALEUFU FOR SOME MORE ACTION, FOOD AND VIEWS. AS I SHARE A LOOK IN SIDE OUR HOME HERE IN CHILE AND MAKE SOME PIZZAS MYSELF, AND HAVE SOME FRIENDS OVER FOR A PARTY! THEN CHECK OUT SOME RAFTING SCENES ON THE FUTALEUFU!

Hey Jack,
Was referred to your site by the homeowners of property we frequent in Redding, Bear Mountain area just outside of Jones Resort. Their home is not available all the nights of our next plan trip (this weekend) so we thought we’d take a chance with you. We are looking for 3 nights, Friday (late arrival since we work that night and have about a 5 hour drive to get there-coming from North Bay)March 2 until Monday morning, March 5th. Do you have availability or can refer us to someone? We’ve been trying to plan this for a couple of weeks but a lot of people have been out of town and we’ve been swamped ourselves (hence the NEED for a mini vacation).
Please let us know either way.
The stay is for us (husband and wife) and our kids.
Thanks!
Nikki and Matt
If I can make it down it will be around April 10-20th. Anything available. Can I fly into Santiago and leave from Buenos Aires. Want to fish a little and troll for pretty women as well. Where should I go for the latter. would like to fish for 4 or 5 days at most. More of an exploratory trip. Thinking about buying a home in that central region, near some great trout fishing and getting the hell out of Los Angeles. If it goes well, I can refer many of my saltwater clients to you. I captain sportfishing boats and yachts.
Que tal,
Mark
The pictures of the chocolates to me were like pictures of porn to men —
my mouth was watering, and I was getting excited. I thought I saw barks
of chocolate with almonds — my favorite!!
Continue to have a funtastic time!!!!
Kathryn
Jack,

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Garrett Smith. I am currently a student/athlete at William Jewell College in NE Kansas City, Missouri. I grew up in the home of an avid outdoorsman in Northern California. Hunting and fishing have always been a huge part of my life. Over the last few years, I have embraced fly fishing. I am excited and ready to learn more. I am searching for a summer (2007) job in the fly fishing industry or field. I am curious if Jack Trout Fishing has any entry level positions available. I will be a consistent hard worker and quality co-worker everyday. Thank you.
Sincerely, Garrett Smith
Hey Jack,
Thanks for the great pictures from Chile. One of these days we will join you on that trip. Always appreciate the beautiful ladies, those eyes! Good God man! Wanted to check w/you on dates for upper sac this year. We missed it last year for whatever reason, but have two days and two rafts with you this year. We are finally getting snow in Nor. Cal right now, so season should be pretty good.
When you get a chance lets book. Thinking late May, early June.
Thanks, have a great time down there.

Jack —
Nothing came in this email about Chile.
Were you trying to email info on sightseeing in Chile in September?
Waiting to hear from you on this. Please re-send.
Thanks, and keep your felt side down. Gary White

Hi there Jack,
Found your page on the internet while checking for the Mt. Shasta dinner train info.
I thought you might enjoy knowing my last name. It’s the same as yours.
I had a part-Cherokee dad who named me “Happy morning water Trout” when I was born, explaining that morning water was always clean, and if it was dirty at the end of the day…that was MY problem.
I have gone by “Hap Trout” all my life so far ( I am to be 73 on June 1st ).
Seems like you LOVE what you are doing.
Just wanted to say “Hi”
HAP
Jack,
Let’s get this thing scheduled.
What do the next two weeks look like: Steelhead, Trout at the head of the Sac?
Or will the fishing be better in April.
Rick
Jack,
Thank you for responding. I will let you know if the group responds.
The company is based out of New York and is reportedly managing a group
of 30 from Argentina.
The request came via e-mail and the English is so broken that it has me
questioning its authenticity.
Nevertheless, I’m going to respond and we’ll see what happens.
I’ll definitely keep you posted, as you are apparently the only Spanish
speaking guide around!
Thanks again,
Angela Byrd
Leda,
So sorry for the delay in answering your request. May I refer you to Jack Trout with Mt.
Shasta Scenic Tours, http://www.jacktrout.com/tours.html. He is fluent in Spanish and
regularly conducts tours in the areas you mention. His phone # is 530-926-4540 and his
email is info@jacktrout.com. He is a wonderful guide – funny, engaging and interesting.
Your clients will be delighted with the tour.

Hi Jack,
I am Marcia Smith, organizer of the History Night Event at the Sisson Museum on Friday, April 6. I am so glad you have agreed to make a presentation on fishing to coordinate with our excellent fishing exhibit. I would like to start publicizing this event and would appreciate any information you can give me on your presentation, your biography and any other information you would like publicized. We are also having Bill Miesse discuss the picture in the exhibit of the fish that was named in McCloud.
So, if you could get back to me with any information or questions, I would appreciate it.
Thank you so much for your consideration and willingness to be involved with Sisson Museum.
Marcia
Great Jack. I cannot wait. I will pick a day. I am going to use 1 of the 2
days left in my 4 pack as partial payment. Should I still send a deposit or
just give that money to you at trip time? I’m happy either way.
Mike
