 The ride was long from the States but once I saw those pristine Andes Mountains  of Patagonia Chile my hard pounded and my blood turned into wine.

 

 I saw my favorite volcano Puntagudo with its small diameter cone near the top, just waiting for its day…..

 

 Then I saw my home river, the Rio Maullin as it flowed out of Lago LLanquihue on its short 50 mile journey to the Pacific Ocean. It was an awesome site from the air and it felt even better knowing Carola was waiting for me when I landed. She arrived a few weeks earlier to get our season under way as the truck needed some repairs and the usual papers filed with the tax folks in Chile, as well as a few tours and all the other great things I am so appreciative for.

 

Thank you Carola for all you have done to get our 2009/2010 season in Chile and Argentina!!  I love you!!

 Eric and Lisa Forehand from North Carolina were our first clients of the season,  the next day I landed but I owe it all to the one of the most unique rivers i n the world the Rio Maullin. A river that flows from an under ground lake like a giant spring creek in a Florida Everglades setting.

 

 Not before long we started hooking these brown trout.

 

 

 As locals gathered wood from the bush…

 

 Mayflies were out in full force when it wasn’t raining.

 

 

 Then it really started to rain browns and rainbows…

 

 Then it got really rainy but we were still catch’n Gretch’n!

 

 Everytime it stopped we would see some trout rise so we threw the dry lines at them.

 

 

 We hooked some decent trout that day, this one looked to be from the ocean with that hologram appearance.

 

Eric mentioned the previous day how much he liked salmon so the next day with all the Atlantic Salmon running in all the rivers around here we went to buy a cooler full for the clients and the rest of our family here. The Atlanitcs mainy run about 20 inces in the rivers, perfect for catching on fly rods and the occaisonal guide lunch.

  

The Atlantics in the rivers here are best tasting salmon not like the ones raised in pens fed with pellets, these salmon are eating shrimp and bait fish. The taste is so clean and fresh.

 This is where our people stay when visiting us  in our newly built 2 bedroom cabin with river front casting. For $150 per night it can sleep easily sleep four.

Our float trips are $350 per day for two anglers and it includes Carola’s gourmet lunches!!

 

 

 The 2nd morning I arrived to take them fishing and Lisa was casting to about a 18 ” rainbow that knew just how to position itself for the perfect drift.

 

 

 This was one finicky fish that really liked size 22 flies with moving parts being it was only in 9 inches of water.

 

 

 Eric caught a few smaller trout on dries as the dogs watch for rising trout in amazment.

 

 

 When we got to the river Lisa found a little luck of the Irish and I knew it was going to be a lucky day.

 

 

 Sure enough not more than a half hour later a bigger trout was on!

 

 In the net the trout looked very healthy.

 

 

 These new Ghost Nets from Brodin are the best ever for the health and safety of a trout that is going to be released. In fact we release all trout we catch everytime.

Glad to see that you are back in Chile. Someday I will have to make it down there. Right now we are putting all of money into building a house near Chirripo which is the highest place in Costa Rica at 12,000 ft. The house will overlook a trout stream but is only 90 minutes from roosters and tarpon.

In the meantime, could you please provide us some pricing?  We would like to spend a day fishing as a family (there are 5 of us), if we can afford it.  We will not have gear, but we do have our own car.  We might also like to send the boys (ages 18 and 20) on a second day of fishing.

Hi Jack,thanks for your e-mail.I live in the Lake District in the North of England hence my love of the outdoors canoeing fishing climbing and the like.Unfortunately at this present time we are seeing the dangerous side of of the weather we have had the most rain ever recorded in the UK in 48hours,this has resulted in flooding main bridges being swept away killing a police officer,thousands of people are unable to go into their homes untill the water goes down,i had a small amount of damage to my home ,it is on the side of a mountain most of the water flowed past my place.When it settles it will be great for canoeing.I cannot wait for my fishing trip in Chile and both Paul and i are very excited.Is Jack Trout your real name?

Baby, I return to home 5 minutes ago, long and good trip, the customer are so happy, the weather so and so, cloudy, but no rain so much!!!

we visited Los Colonos factory, differents places in Frutillar, they take many pictures, everything is ok…..they invite me for dinner, but I say no, because I prefer wait for you and will go together, they need time alone and enjoy the places…….is good for me too.

right now I will go to Llanquihue, because I need something of my grandmo, I will be there and return in the night of course…..
