*****FALL NEARS AND STEELHEAD START HEADING IN NOW FROM THE OCEAN! CHILE SIGN-UPS ARE HAPPENING, AIRFARE FOR CHILE IS AT ITS LOWEST NOW! TRINITY, McCLOUD, UPPER SAC & LOWER SAC REMAIN PRODUCTIVE.*****
What a great August we are experiencing up here in the north state! This has to be the most productive fly fishing I’ve ever seen for being in the middle of the summer. The flows are perfect, the temps are perfect, and the trout are happy! Life is great Sizzlers, and to think that the steelhead season starts next week over on the Klamath Coast is another pearl I’m looking forward to find.
John called me to check out the rafting fly fishing trip on the Upper Sac back in July!
It didn’t take long for him to hook-up and show-off his prize.
The river is always so beautiful when it’s this clear!
Here at “Bottoms-Out” rapid, John’s living large!
John, thanks for coming up look forward to fishing with you this fall! Trout
The last day of the 2006 raft/fly fishing season was on July 15th, just like anticipated!
From rafting the river over the past 13 years, I have figured out a formula on how many days I can float the river, based on the amount of snow-pack on Mt Shasta and the drainage off the mounatin into the Upper Sac. The numbers are prepared by my pals at the USFS snow survey team in Mt Shasta, and by taking in the averages and dividing it by the amount of user days from April 1st, I have developed a trusty method for knowing how many days I can float safely that has been accurate now for four seasons! I guess you could say I’m one with the rivers!
Men, anytime you can take a lady out fishing and show her the sport you’re doing all of us a service. More and more women every year are learning how to fly fish, and I think that is great! The next time you go, take a girl with you!
Classic!
And on the last day of the 2006 rafting/fly fishing season, I would like to thank the Upper Sac for providing a safe course for me and all of my customers. Special thanks goes out to Mt Shasta, for pulling in the most major storms ever! Keep it up Sister Christian, I need one of those winters every year!! 3 months of rafting and fly fishing was quite a treat for me and all my customers. (Mt Shasta, you go girlfriend)! Gene and Cathy Eckert,
sure enjoyed their 1st time out on the raft on the last day of the year!
Gene’s great day on the McCloud!
Elephant ears are so cool, just cruising through an orchard of them this time of year, lets me know that the summer is in full swing!
Roger Lustberg has become one of the most accomplished fly fishermen I’ve seen in quite sometime. No offense Roger, but in the beginning you were a piece-of-work! (guides drew straws, just kidding)! That was almost 6 years ago, and this last trip out was simple amazing. You owned it bud! You’re not just good anymore, you’re damn good. (not trying to snowball either, I was impressed)! Wading was great, great shape and the line management…expert!
Gene Weber, Ladies and Gentlemen! Having a great time out at Bollibokka!
Roger with a nice trout on! The McCloud River can produce some beauty rainbows when the water level is right, like it is now!
Roger Lustberg, CONGRATULATIONS YOU’RE MY SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD WINNER! YOU DESERVE IT SIZZLER!!
Gene you’re having too much fun!
Some of the best water west of the Rockies!
Gene, like a kid with his train set!
Way to go! Gene thanks for a wonderful experience, that was classic. Can’t wait for fall with the whole posse! Trout
McCloud Trout, the most famous well traveled trout in the world! This message was brought to you by the underground lava tubes from Mt Shasta, reminding all of you out there they don’t want Nestle to build a water plant on them.
Over on the Trinity River, Julian Mossip is bringing in another trout on dry flies! That day he caught over 30 trout, mostly on dries and stimi-droppers (Say that 6 times)!
Julian sets up his drift with a perfect mend upstream. I like to take a micro-strip in just before making my mend, so I have good line control and make a complete mend.
The trout takes the fly, Julian sets!
Julian keeps his rod up high, using the top 2 feet of the rod at a height of approx 14 feet, where the tip absorbs the runs and head-butts the trout is displaying. He looks like the Orvis logo! (The only thing Orvis ever got right)….
Nice demo rock-star! See you and pops at the Red Hot Chili Peppers, on Aug 24th. All girls out there, Julian is single and wanted all of you to know!
Letter from Jim Mossip: Thanks again for the right on recommendation. Julian and I had a great day and those are the experiences that we both will remember. If you want to build self-esteem for kids they need to do it rather than someone tell them they are great. Evan always liked heavy metal music so every year I take the kids to Ozzfest so we can do something they enjoy together. I am not a metal head but I can appreciate people doing something well like Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society playing guitar. Ozzie can’t move well anymore but you can tell he is doing something he loves by entertaining up on stage. We have alot of good bands that don’t play commercial music such as As I Lay Dying, Judist Priest, Iron Maiden, System of the Down, Rob Zombie, Avenged Seven Fold, Hatebreed, Slipnot etc. Really looking forward to Red Hot Chili Peppers and hope to see you there. Thanks Again Jim
Cool Jim Thanks, Jack Trout
Even the deer were happy and not bothered by anything on that day.
Travis hooked into a lunker!
This was the first adult trout of the season on the Upper Trinity, what a sight for sore eyes!
Almost looks obscene! way to go Travis! WELL, I HOPED YOU ENJOYED THOSE ADVENTURES! STAY TUNED AS WE HEAD TO THE UPPER SAC ON FOOT, DASH AND FLASH SOME TROUT UP ON THE McCLOUD,
ROCK-OUT WITH YOUR ROD OUT– ON THE TRINITY, GO FOOT-LOSE AND FANCY FLOAT WITH A COUPLE OF FUNNY BROTHERS ON THE LOWER SACRAMENTO RIVER AND WINE DINE–DRY FLY–PRIME TIME, AT A PRIVATE CLUB ON THE McCLOUD RIVER! THANKS FOR WATCHING, JACK TROUT
EMAILS FROM YOU:
Jack – thanks again for the great time on the McCloud a few weeks ago! I have not talked with everyone individually, but I think I can speak for us all in saying that we had an excellent time! And no doubt we wouldn’t have had the same great experience without your expert guidance.
Jim and I had an awesome experience and it was welll worth the trip up from San Diego. I hope we can relive again someday soon. With your help, Jim is unofficially now my new big brother. And he also knows not to feed me as many martinis that he can down.
Do you post the pics from our trip on your website? or can you send me the few of our adventure together? I would like to frame a few and give them as gifts.
Thanks for your help, and again thanks again for the first-class hospitality. I hope to come back soon.
Mike Metz

I just wanted to let you know that the indicators that we got from you last winter are the best I have ever fished with. Easy to use and they undoubtedly always stay afloat longer than any other indicator I have used.(and I have tried a lot) I fished them with two nymph’s on the high spring waters of the East Walker and some of New Zealand’s larger waters…they just out performed other indicators. Our guides were very impressed in New Zealand by our American indicators.
Thanks again

Jack,
What a great trip! I really enjoyed the day, your enthusiasm, the fishing and the hot babes! Oh, and I can˙≠t forget the olives. You provide a great full-service trip. Unbelievable to float an 8 mile stretch of great trout producing water in CA and only see four other fisherman along the way.
Drive was no problem last night, took me just under 4 hrs. Back to work next Monday, oh well. Took the last two months off ˙ã what a great way to cap off my vacation time.
Be sure to send me pictures from the trip.
Tight lines!
