HARD RAINS HIT THE NORTH STATE AND STEELHEAD MADNESS BEGINS!!
CALL FOR YOUR OCTOBER – NOVEMBER – DECEMBER – JANUARY FLOAT TRIP
ON THE KLAMATH * TRINITY * LOWER SACRAMENTO RIVERS.
Carola at Father Middle Falls on the McCloud River on top of the world folks! Carola sure has enjoyed her stay here in Mount Shasta
and all the fun places we go on our travels. Thanks to all of you out there that have embraced our relationship and sent a note of gratitude, especially the ones
that have mentioned to Carola to kick me in the cake if I get out of line! (Amazing how a fine lady can fine tune a rusty act, like a hook sharperner!)
WE LOVE ALL YOU MAN!! JACK & CAROLA
IT’S STEELHEAD TIME FOLKS!!!
THERE’S AN AMAZING RUN UP THE TRINITY AND KLAMATH RIVERS AS I WRITE THIS
PIECE!
Don’t miss out on this steelhead season, guides are talking about it being the best run since 2006
season.
Klamath River before big rains hit and I could see salmon and steelhead jumping all over the place!
This was three days before big rains and I will be over on the Trinity River next week so stay tuned for that report.
Feels so good to be back out steelheading, I love this time of year!
The best part is that the four adult steelhead we landed were all wild. We hooked others of course, and over 20 – 1/2 pounders to make life interesting.
Smiley here is up visiting me before I guide him in Chile this year on his 6 month vacation in South America!
A real thrasher from the ocean!
It never gets old folks, these fish are apart of my soul, your adventures are my life!
Carola’s gourmet lunches with a nice bottle of wine!
Numerous hook-ups all day long!
Way to go Sizzler!
Smiley, you’re my Sizzler of the Week Award Winner!! Congratulations Sizzler, next our great adventures in Chile!!
Tranquil…..

Walks on water and as pure as the nectar that flows through those tubes….
We have to protect the waters that come from the underground lava tubes that feed the McCloud River.
I would like to see protective legislation put in place to protect any tributary, creek, stream, lava tube aquafir or rain drop that flows into the McCloud River drainage. If you ask me, these are the most important resources in our great State of California. It is also important for salmon and trout reproduction, they need access to these purities. How would you feel if you got stopped at Redding on your vacation to the McCloud Falls or Iron Gate Dam on your romantic salmon orgy up at the fertile ancient Klamath Basin..? My point is fish need pure water and historic spawning grounds are there for a reason. Want the return of the historic salmon and steelhead runs take these dams out or get the fish over them, they need pure water access and it is obvious that in the later era of these dams that the salmon and steelhead gene pools are getting fouled up and we’re heading for a bunch steelhead and salmon that think and act like Jethro Bodean. (Beverly Hillbillies one hit wonder)
I thought you might be getting a little busy out there and might be needing some reminding. Every year it seems the price of water gets more precious as foreign companies are trying to make a future buck and we have a thristy State to feed. The fish are hoping you take notice, it’s been a life changing suck-ass 50 years – so we say it let flow-bro!
We have to take a hard look at the big picture and make some big time hydro decesions that will efect many generations, lets be smart and try to get it right this time.
As Salmony Shinooker Hookjaw Magillacutty #420 once said: “ Give me open pure rivers or give me death!”
Many Rivers & Oceans to You, Jack Trout
(Dinner with Pops at the IRON DOOR JOHNSVILLE, CALIFORNIA)
My dad Raymond is a true legend in Plumas County! Carola and I love my dad who is almost 90 years old!! He was a fishing guide from 1968 to 1976 on the Feather River, Lake Davis
and The Sierra Buttes Lakes like Gold Lake, Salmon Lake. He guided in the summer time and was school teacher at Portola Elementary for 33 years. He was also a Game Warden up at Lake Davis
but he declined one year when they wanted to issue him a gun. He is the most intelligent man I know, I owe everything to my father, he’s honest, respectful and a hell of an outdoorsman. He taught me all the best things in life like keeping a sense of humor, having goals and respecting other people. He made it to every one of my track and football practices, those things help me so much now with being a fulltime guide. I have nothing but sweet memories as a kid growing up in Portola, California when the Feather River really flowed and the fishing was fantastic where ever you went.
My dad had a stroke this year and is now living with my brother Pete, but we had this great dinner with him last month and I cherish this night.
My dad absolutely loves Carola!! She so full of love for life, wow did I score folks!! (My pops sure did!)
Everyday I find myself acting or being more like him and those things I thought that were so geekish as a teenager are my pride and joy now! You would all love my dad he’s so funny, a real classic Sizzler!
I love you Pops!

My dad hadn’t drank in 30 years! What a great night and my sister-in-law Candy broke out this 1989 bottle of French wine and we toasted family!
A couple days after guided some folks on Hat Creek.
I like the wild trout out of Hat Creek and the Pit River they have unique markings.
Another trout from ground Sub-Zero
Rick Gamez a real cool cat to fish with!
Caught on a size 12 stimulator on the surface, remember my dad always told me,
“If you catch it on a dry fly son, you get to add 3 inches!”
Hat Creek is the most insect habitat abundant river in the west, full of Stone flies, Mayflies and Caddis including several varieties.Plan on visting a North State trout stream in addition to your steelhead visit.
Underwater you can see even fresh water leeches and eels live in the loamy bottom of Hat Creek.
Hat Creek – Try a Stimulator dropper, you’ll have a great day friends!
Mayfly Callibaetis size 14 Hat Creek.
We have dates open for October – November & December for steelhead or trout.
Upper Sacramento, Lower Sac, Trinity & Klamath Rivers are open all winter.
We’re all alone! Sweetest kisses of my life!
Thanks for watchin! Jack & Carola Trout
