I always enjoy swimming in high elevations around Mount Shasta & McCloud when the temps are over 90.

But it hasn’t effected the fly fishing, as trout are hitting best midday.

Spring creeks in the region are fishing well as crowds lessen do to thinking that the fishing this time of year is slow. It has been fantastic and I always have some great place to go year around.

We have been catching nice trout out in the raft, clients all seem to be liking these trips.

Wading rivers has been excellent, as the temps have dropped now and the colder mornings prevail.

Some of best past clients are having great trips and returning this fall for steelhead fishing on the Trinity River.

People like Larry Masula from Chico, when he’s not adjusting backs, he’s out on the water with me or in Alaska.

River Dog is getting to be so smart and always keeps us safe out in the forests of far Northern California.

Many kids who would never have this opprotunity are learning how to fly fish, with sucess I might add.

This is my 30th year of providing these kinds of trips that no one else does.

Even well known fly fishing guides are coming out with me and it’s truly an honor.

Many people are coming out and learning new hobbies with their husbands and family.

It was great this year to participate in the Mount Shasta Parade. 🙂

Back out on the water, even bamboo fanatics love my floats and keep coming back for more.

We have so many locations, so many resources produced by Mount Shasta’s flows and aquafers.

A McCloud Red Band Trout is always a special treat when were out fly fishing.

Klamath River update, the final Irongate Dam will be completely removed by fall, then you figure it will take a year to recover from silts, but it will return and when it does, we’ll have more areas to float.

I am proud that these dams which should have never been put in the first place are being removed, this will help restore salmon populations, but the other tribs along the Klamath are just as important. It will take a village for the salmon to return in numbers like I have seen in the past but this is how you start.

Sierra Buttes is the area I grew up in as a kid, they filmed the movie White Water Summer there in 1985 – 87 with Kevin Bacon and Sean Astin. I highly suggest watching it, you’ll get a kick. There is one scene they filmed on the McCloud River too. 🙂

Gunsight Ridge was one of my fathers favs growing up, this is near the tonws of Graeagle and Downieville, California.

There are great rivers for you to fly fish around there.

Went and saw the band 38 Special the other night, one of favorite bands from high school playing up in Medford, Oregon.

It was 1974, a new band was forming in Jackson, Florida. They couldn’t afford any studio, but they finally found a guy who owned a building that would rent them a room to play for a fair price. They had soo much equipment, the area wasn’t secure, so they boarded over the windows and only left one window open on the second story that they had to climb a drainage pipe to enter into the house. One of the nights they were playing they heard a knock on the doors and they climbed back down the pipe to see who it was, when the last of the 6 band members made it down, local Jacksonville police had guns drawn on them asking them to put their hands up. They later found out the police officers were holding 38 specials on them and that’s how the bands name came about. The owner later verified they were renting the house and all was forgiven in the end. They had been wondering on what to call the band, thanks to the Jacksonville Police, they found their calling. 🙂 I was told that story that night at the concert and then Don Barnes handed me a bunch of picks. jt
