*****KLAMATH*TRINITY*LOWER SAC*McCLOUD*UPPER SAC*PIT*HENDERSON SPRINGS*****
What could be better than the McCloud River in the fall? The trees are changing to their alpen colors, the mornings are cold but the temps mid-day are perfect. It seems like every day the fishing improves as the fish feel the need to feed heavy with the promise of a big winter looming ominously around the bend. So the stage was set when the Gene Weber Group came to fish a private section of the McCloud River
called Bollibokka. (BOLLIBOKKA; Black Manzanita in Wintu Indian Language)
Bob hooked up on plenty of McCloud Rainbows at the infamous Leo’s Flats nymphing with size 16 Copper John in red and copper. What a beautiful riffle that produces everytime I visit him.
John could be found sitting on a rock in front of the Rock House casting to rising trout using a Parachute Adams size 16. John caught his first trout ever on a dry fly and thought
to himself, “with ultilities increasing in price by 70% this is a great way to conserve energy!” I couldn’t agree more!
The McCloud in all sections is producing hatches from 11am to
4pm. Fly Fish the foam lines, pocket water and tail-outs using size 16, Adams, Cahill (light & pink) and E.C. Caddis.
Dinner back at camp was great! Aaron Martin (bottom right)
brought the Albacore and I cooked up some fresh spinach fettuccini with carmelized mushrooms, bacon and fresh spinach
mixed into an alfredo sauce. Matt Hill (top right)
and Aaron Greener (bottom left) enjoyed the delicious tri tip and veggies that accompanied warm smiles and great stories from a successful guide outting experienced that day on the river!
Matt Hill guiding Russ and John! (ready for adventure!)
Johnston Evans came out from New York and loved the views and the beauty on the McCloud River. Hooking up on trout wasn’t too hard for this guy!
But it was John Siegler of Seattle that proved to be a big winner when he dapped his nymph in this tail-out at the bottom of a slow run near the edge of that rock. Not more than 3 feet away loomed a lunker trout, waiting for his meal-on-reels!
John was taken downstream in an instant. He reeled the trout within viewing distance and we all got chubbies
when we saw her size! I jumped into the river and retrieved
the space cowboy!
What a prize this was!
John stood proud before us all, for his greatest fly fishing accomplishemnt and all my years of guiding & teaching him is framed before your eyes…
A closer look reveals that this was a Kamloop from Shasta Lake, (no spots under the lateral line, McCloud Rainbows have a red stripe and lots of spots under the lateral line)John was so happy, I guess that great bottle of Dehlinger pinot noir 2002 was the turning point on that day, we caught this trophy after lunch! jt Way to go John, hope to see you in Alaska next July!!!!!
Colin caught this brown trout with Aaron Martin! Browns are up now in the McCloud from Shasta Lake. One year I had a customer land a 9lb., 31 in. brown trout in August below the McCloud Dam in the middle of the day! Catching a brown on the McCloud River is always a lucky day, You don’t know when
it’s going to happen!
Over on the Upper Klamath Aaron Greener and I took out a group of four on a lovely fall day. The steelhead are in, the salmon are in, the only problem has been landing the wooly beast! Eggs are working good right but go deep, the flows are higher than normal.
Brian Pearce of Danville landed this cromer-roamer and wanted to say, “cheers to all my blokes back home in the south east coast of England, near Brighton!” (If someone reads this from England can you mail me some of those scampi fries, you can pick them up in any pub. I love them!)
Mark, Brian’s son, caught this decadent wild steelhead and was crowned, SIZZLER OF THE WEEK! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER!
*****THANK YOU FOR WATCHING THESE ADVENTURES, WE HAVE DATES AVAILABLE FOR THE BIGGEST RUN OF STEELIES WHICH ROLL INTO THE KLAMATH IN DECEMBER AND JANUARY! STAY TUNED AS WE DRIFT THE KLAMATH, CHECK OUT THE TRINITY AND VIEW MT SHASTA’S VERSION OF VERMONT IN THE FALL!***** MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT

KATHRYN BIANCHI
Which one is the movie star – the guy on the left or the guy on the right?
Isn’t Danny such a nice guy?! I met him when he was in Chicago directing the movie Hoffa. Had I stayed on the set a little longer, I would have met Jack Nicholson. I went home because I had to work in the morning. He shook my hand hello, and again good-bye when I left. He let me lean on his director’s chair while I watched him direct the scene. He is very down-to-earth and a really nice person! When are you going to guide him? You did give him one of your cards, didn’t you?
The comedians you listed are some of my favorites. I also like Eddie Murphy and Dana Carvey. I met Dana on a set for SNL, and he is as funny in person (being himself) as he is on screen.
How much is a gift certificate for one of your tours? What if they don’t have any fly-fishing equipment? Every time I read one of your adventures, I think what a great gift it would be and how much my brother or boss would probably like it.

WADE GOERTZ
Jack …. I reeeeaaaallllllyyyyyy enjoy getting the e-newsletter each week. Even though I didn’t get a chance to go fishing with you this year, I get to see what I have been missing and I get to dream about what I might do next. Thanks for always being so entertaining and enthusiastic.
Were you fishing in Boxwood Gulch or nearby?
My 3 favorite movie comedians are
1) Cary Grant — he made so many funny movies it would be hard to narrow it down to one performance –
2) Bill Murray — Meatballs, Stripes, Caddyshack, What About Bob?
3) Danny DeVito – Throw Momma from the Train, Twins, Ruthless People, and “Taxi”
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that each of these actors also excels at dramatic roles as well…. they are terrifically gifted actors.
Thanks again Jack, I look forward to our next fishing trip…. Wade Goertz
PS Are you planning any future trips to Chile?
