Here it was December 3rd two days after the big storm we received dumping on us for a full week. The water looked a little discolored and the air was cold. Do Roy Holmes and Jack Trout look worried? I don’t think so Sizzlers! Your in for a real Jack Trout~Walt Disney Adventure! This story makes me
freekin goofy when I think back on it cause the fishing was Cinderella that day and there wasn’t anything Mickey Mouse about it! Let’s get’em Pops! “YOU GOT TO CATCH THE CHICKEN,

Pops who only looks serious cause he’s kinda cold, was a delight to hang out with. Both Jon and and Pops are our tribe.

Next Pops hooks into a bohemith that takes him on a 15 minute mission. He laughs in delight as the cold instantly goes away
because a wild steelhead gives off more b.t.u.’s than a cord of black oak firewood.

Pops was on a roll the first time out on the Klamath. In fact, I think he had only nymphed fly fished one other time before!!
In all, he caught over 10 adults in one day!!! We had a great party that day!!!(I guess that’s why we’re listed under Fishing Parties in the Yellow Pages??)
I got to hear stories about the 60’s and Jimi Hendrix concerts, it was a real cultural day. I love my job!! I really enjoy meeting and talking with all you great people out there! It’s was 4:30am when I started writing this, I couldn’t sleep again. 1. Too excited about the fishing right now to sleep anymore 2. Wanted to get this story out to you, the Sizzlers!

With that I conclude this short story. I dunked my camera again so I had 10 more big fish photos to show you from trips this past week. I HAVE THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY OPEN NOW AFTER A CANCELLATION, I HAVE TWO GUIDES AVAILABLE FOR THIS WEEKEND ALSO. THE FISHING IS AWESOME GET YOUR FANNY UP HERE!!! FLY FISHING WILL REMAIN ACTIVE INTO FEBRUARY. THIS PAST STORM HAS BROUGHT IN THE SILVER SALMON (COHOS) THE RIVER HAS BEEN PERFECT LEVEL AVERAGING ABOUT 1800 C.F.S. THIS LEVEL IS PERFECT FOR SPAWNING OF THE SILVERS. THE STEELHEAD ARE RIGHT ON THEM AS THEIR REDS ARE BEING MADE AS WE SPEAK. IRONGATE HATCHERY REPORTS TO ME THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED 1280 ADULT SILVERS SO FAR!!! LIFE IS GOOD ON THE KLAMATH RIGHT NOW, LETS KEEP IT THAT WAY!

Klamath River Update
In this update:

Is the Un-dam the Klamath tour is coming to your town?

The struggle to convince Pacific Power to remove the Klamath dams is
coming to a head. This March Pacific Power will announce their plans for
the fish-killing Klamath dams. They shocked River communities last year
by announcing they had no plans for fish passage as part of their dam
re-licensing process, which only occurs every 50 years.

With the Klamath Salmon on the brink of extinction (all Chinook runs are
this year were at an all time low), KFA with others is planning a Un-Dam
the Klamath multi-media tour with local tribes and other Klamath
residents. Movies about the Klamath Salmon and other fisheries featuring
rare underwater footage, a slideshow, and speakers will be aspects of this
road show. Who knows? We may inspire more demonstrations at Pacific
Powerís, and decision makersí offices like we did after the Portland
Klamath dam night. Check out

Toxic algae is created by Klamath dams.

Studies by the Karuk tribe show these dams create toxic algae over 100
times what the World Health organization considers a moderate health risk.
Health warnings on eating Klamath Salmon and recreating in reservoirs
were in effect this fall and late summer due to the toxic conditions
created by this alga. Alga is created by warm stagnant water, which is
common behind the Klamath dams.

Donate to the Holliday Fund-raiser for the Un-Dam the Klamath tour, the
Black Oak newspaper, and fighting chemical use on public land.

As many of you know the last couple of years have been very challenging
for the Klamath River and itís advocates. What you may not know is that
KFA has been doing all of their great work to protect the Klamath River
and forest with practically no funding at all. Currently we are working to
fund; a new issue of ìThe Black Oak, Environmental Justice where
California meets Oregonî, a new publication, a computer for the Klamath
Salmon Media Collaborative, the Un-Dam the Klamath tour, and our newly
renewed Klamath River alternatives to toxics program. All this on top of
our normal forest monitoring and Klamath River programs, both of which our
expanding due to the current Bush administrationís war on the forests and
rivers of the Klamath.

BLM announces they want to spray up to 932,000 acres.
Deadline for comments is January 9th

The Bureau of Land Management has just released its Programmatic
Environmental Impact Statement, which proposes to triple the herbicide
spray for all their public lands in the West. They are claiming that
herbicides are needed to reduce catastrophic wildfires and protect
ecosystems from invasive weeds. The BLM will apply eighteen different
poisons onto public land types including forests, rangelands, and aquatic
areas. These applications will include a heavy aerial spraying component.
The herbicides include several mobile and toxic chemicals, including known
developmental and reproductive toxins.
Included in the BLM proposal are herbicides that they admit put
applicators at risk: 2,4-D, bromacil, chlorsulfuron, diquat, diuron,
fluridone, hexazinone, teburthiruon, and triclopyr. Also included is
picloram, which is no longer registered for use in California. Three of
the herbicides have not even been evaluated for registration. The BLM
controls millions of acres in the Klamath and Rouge River watersheds.

River Update
**Less then 250 Spring Chinook remain in the Klamath River
KFA just helped to host the Spring Salmon Summit to address the lack of
spring run Chinook in the Salmon River. The Salmon River is the last
refugee for wild Spring Chinook, however there was less then 100 counted
in the Salmon River this year, and less then 250 for the whole Klamath
watershed. Historically the Spring Chinook numbers were between 100,000
and 1 million, with most of the run spawning above the Klamath dams.
Similarly the fall run Chinook the healthier of the runs numbered at fewer
than 400 fish this year. Three tribes and the entire ocean fishing
community in Northern California and Southern Oregon depend on the Klamath
Chinook runs, yet with the Karuk tribe alone numbered at over 4000 tribal
members, it has become obvious that this years return represents the
biggest environmental justice crisis in the Klamath since the Gold Rush.
This years fall count is probably influenced by the death of over 68,000
Fall Chinook in the fish kill of 2002.
Many say that if Spring Chinook ever return to the upper Klamath (and they
could if we remove the dams), the population will have to come from the
Salmon River. However it we cannot save the Salmon River Spring Chinook
this dream of Bringing the Salmon Home, may never come true.
