 Howdy everyone, just wanted to let you all know, the rivers are all on right now up here in far Northern California.

 I’ve been doing my float on the Upper Sac with my guide partner Kobe Beef.

 But it is always great to see my old friend of over 20 years, John Rogers out doing what he loves to do.

 The river was still a little high when we floated on May 17th & 18th, 2012. 1800 CFS.  Delta

 Lunch was wonderful as usual as my Chilean wife Carola brought all her famous stream side gourmet lunch recipes to share with all of you!

 High sticking out of the raft can also be productive and slows the nymph down a few mil-seconds, just spoon feed that fly to the trout!

 It always fun after a long winter to get out and enjoy the last weeks of spring as we head into the California summer.

 It’s great to see all the hatches occurring mainly mid-day on the Upper Sac. I see Yellow Sallies size 14 and Golden Stones size 12.

I also have been seeing Green Drakes & Mayflies on the rainy days. 

 But we have been mainly nypmhing out of the raft with two flies and one or two SSG weights. Go by TED FAY FLY SHOP, they can help you with the exact flies for our local rivers.  530-235-2969

John Rogers was my lender and my right hand man. The Bay Area ultimately wasn’t for me, it was like when Opie left Mayberry on the Andy Griffith show. But it taught me what it’s like to live and work for the few years I did living in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. I like to think I learned what people from the Bay Area expect as far as the level of service as an outfitter guide. Something I might have never embraced if I hadn’t sat myself in Bay Bridge traffic.

 One day out on my raft Christiana Rattazzi and Brad Friesen caught some real nice trout on their first ever day out fly fishing.

 Matt LeDucq was just in heaven, every time I looked back all I saw was this beaming smile on his face. 🙂

 When Steve & Wendy Lu came to Shasta, the trout stood on their tails and saluted.

 Steve had been out before but never actually landed a trout.

 Wendy took to fly fishing like an eagle soars and that day she caught many trout with her husband.

 Now that’s a nice Upper Sac trout!

 That day the flows were perfect and the temps were even better.

 A real beauty if you ask me.

 Thumbs up from the client is always a good sign!

 You’re getting pretty good at this Wendy!

 18 years ago I had this client I guided named James Conrad, movie star name if you ask me.

 This is his son Miles, it’s always great to see the next generation discovering the great sport of fly fishing.

 That day he caught many great trout, it was his first real day of fly fishing.

 When the clouds roll in and the light rain starts to sprinkle be sure to have some Green Drakes in your box!

 I haven’t ever met a kid that doesn’t LOVE this trip! We sell gift certificates for any occasion.

A little further down the river we encountered this poacher from Redding, illegally fishing with salmon eggs. We walked up above where he was fishing and Kobe went over and ate his salmon eggs as he left the bottle open.

 John is originally from Wisconsin, but has recently relocated to Santa Rosa to be closer to Tim and the Fam. I don’t think this transition will be hard if Tim keeps turning pops on to trips like this! One thing I think we can all agree on, we all like Aaron Rodgers of Chico, now playing with Green Bay Packers!
