The Upper Sac is such a wonderful place right now! Even on my days off I can be found swimming or fly fishing for two hours here or 4 hours there. It must sound funny that I return to my office on my days off? But now more than ever, I really appreciate and feel right at home anytime on the Upper Sac. Lately the canyons have been epic to head into, I suggest this therapy to anyone. Have a great 4th of July everyone and thanks so much for making this a great year in guiding! I couldn’t do it with out your support and the trips you book with Jack Trout Fly Fishing and Guide Service. From all of us here Thank you!

Here’s Phil Stanton on the Upper Sac with a nice trout on!
Phil lives up in Portland, Oregon and owns a restaurant called the Mississippi. He came down to get his brother Tom from the Bay Area and head up north to Portland, of course on the way stop off and some fly fishing with Jack Trout.
Brother Tom fishing near Flume Creek on the Upper Sacramento River.
Over on the McCloud River the trout started to rise to our dry flies.
Look at that perfect pristine water!
Nice trout Phil!! Love those colors…jt
The trout of the McCloud River are some of the finest in the world, if not the most important trout ever. The world owes a debt of gratitude for all the Rainbow trout east of Reno, Nevada and south of the equator are all from the McCloud River in Northern California. jt
Dreamy release!
Wild Azalea is out now, especially along the Upper Sacramento & McCloud Rivers!
(Tiger Lillies are also blooming now).
Tom and Phil Stantom, thank you very much for stopping through Mt Shasta and fishing with me! What a great time indeedy!! Many Rivers to You, Jack Trout
Farmer John at the Farmer’s Market, MONDAYS 3PM TO 6:30PM ~ N. MT SHASTA BLVD ACROSS FROM
VET’S CLUB.
(COMING SOON~ THURSDAY ALSO!!)
Where else are the trails lined with beautiful sweet pea flowers!! That’s what makes Mt Shasta the best town in America, everywhere you look there’s a wild flower, trail or a snow- capped peak!
When the boys from the East arrived, the Shasta Daisies stood-up in full bloom!
Doug from Boston was the first to hook-up!
Life is great out west!
Look for this kind of water as the summer heat heads in! Trout like this water because of all the fresh oxygen and cover from predators. Think of it like as a jacuzzi for trout!
Todd Stenz from Boston hooks up folks!
Fish-on in Siskiyou County, California.
Wild flowers growing on the springs that flow from Mt Shasta to Dunsmuir.
Up near Mossbrae Falls the filtered light makes for great pics!
5pm the hatch starts and the trout are up on the surface! Use a size 16 or 18 Adams no parachute.
That hatchery trout seems happy to be caught!
Todd with another trout on dries!
Way down stream later that evening, we hooked more on dries.
Nice trout Todd, wait til tomorrow on the Klamath, there’s a Stone Fly Hatch!
The Klamath River is getting healthier little by little with proper flows over 1000 CFS. Whoever was running the releases before, keep that person under lock and key, they need a saliva test! (First the fish ladders then remove those Klamath Dams= normal salmon run in the future).
Every body must get stoned! Stone flies on the Klamath River are always fun to fish with!
Seeing those trout and steelhead come up for those huge dry flies is a one of kind experience!
Floating is a great way to catch, but I also like to get the customers out of the boat and wade the Klamath River.
Walking up the willow lines along the edges of the river is a sure way to get a fish to hit
your stone fly. Cast up stream, and don’t mend. Drop your tip immediately and strip your line in fast to catch up to the fly floating down towards you. It’s an easy hook-up because your tip is down, you have a better setting position to keep a fish on your hook.
Up-stream cast once again into the riffles above proves to be rewarding….
as Todd runs down stream with a hot fish on!
Below, Doug yells to say he has one on also! I love double hook-ups.
Down river Mike hooks up on a lunker that take us down river in the drift boat.
Nice trout Mike Taguiam!! YOU’RE MY SIZZLER OF THE WEEK AWARD WINNER!!! CONGRATULATIONS SIZZLER!! JACK TROUT
TODD STENZ WITH A WILD STEELHEAD FROM THE OCEAN AND A 1 FOOT LAMPREY EEL ATTACHED TO HIM. THIS SHOWS THAT WITH THE RIGHT FLOWS AND CONCERN FOR THIS SPECIAL RIVER WE CAN BRING IT BACK FROM THE DEPTHS THAT IT HAS SUNK TO. THE KLAMATH USE TO BE THE BEST SALMON RIVER ANYWHERE, AND NOW IT IS VERY UNHEALTHY AND NEEDS EVERYONE’S ATTENTION. NEVER AGAIN WILL WE PUT ANYTHING IN FRONT OF THIS IMPORTANT RESOURCE, IT PROVED TO BE A POLITICAL DISASTER! IT’S SAD IT TAKES THAT TO GET PEOPLE’S & BUREAU OF RECLAMATION’S ACT TOGETHER. JT
LAMPREY EEL JUST FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES!! JT
Me and actor-comedian, Billy Connely, on the Klamath River!! This guy was so hilarious!!
Did you see him on the Elton John 60th Birthday Special? This guy doesn’t need to act, he’s a natural comedian.
*****THANKS FOR WATCHING MY ADVENTURES, NEXT STORY WE HEAD BACK TO BELIZE WITH THE RICHARD GEBHART AND HIS FAMILY!! STAY TUNED & MANY RIVERS TO YOU, JACK TROUT

Hi – we are going to be in the Mt. Shasta area from July 12-15th and my husband would like to go fly fishing on that Saturday, the 14th. Do you have anything available? He is a novice, has his own gear – I would like to be able to go but not fish if that is possible. We are also traveling with our med.size dog, is it possible to have her go also? Sorry about all of the questions – we are from Fresno, CA and have never been to the Northern areas and very much looking forward in coming. Thank you for your assistance. Susan Akbiiyikian

Jack,
I am in here in Wales with Karen and we are talking about the trip to Chile.
She is interested in five days but only if there is something for her to which would not be just sitting beside us reading a book or sitting on the raft.
Could you tell us what might be the day activities that she would do ? She is more hiking and nature than city.
Thank you.
KATE SPELMAN

Jack this is what I really want to see!! Very nice!
I would of answer you early but I went to Alaska for 9 days! On a cruise. Didn’t fish, but sure watched the Bald Eagles fish! WOW..those eagles up there make our bald eagles down here look like pigeons!!! They are HUGE!! The Golden Eagles too. And the one time I was not carrying my camera to catch that shot of the eagle with that salmon. That eagle wing span must of been 7 feet!
Took a 15 mile bike ride up around Skagway–now that is the way to see the country! Had a great time. Now I am ready to come up your way to fish. I need to check dates then I will connect you.
Hope to meet you some day soon, Thanks for the great local pics, PJ 🙂
Great pictures Jack. I≠ll see you there one day, Looks like my kind of trout streams.
Alan
